Pass Plus course
The Pass Plus course is designed give new drivers extra confidence on the roads.
Pass Plus is a training course that is especially designed for new drivers. According to statistics, new drivers have an increased likelihood of having an accident within the first two years of passing their test because of their lack of driving experience. The Pass Plus couse aims to build on the foundation of those newly acquired driving skills and knowledge.
The Pass Plus course is designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) with assistance from insurers and driving instructors. It is a training course specifically aimed at new drivers. The course will build upon your existing skills and knowledge, giving you more confidence on the roads, as well as teaching you how to anticipate and react to a wide variety of road hazards.
The Pass Plus course consists of six practical modules:
- driving in urban areas
- driving in various weathers conditions
- driving on country roads
- driving at nighttime
- driving on dual carriageways
- driving on motorways
Providing you hold a full UK licence you are eligible to take part in the course. There are no tests or examinations involved, but you will be continually assessed throughout the course. In order to pass the course you need to successfully complete all the modules to a satisfactory standard.
Fees for the Pass Plus course will vary depending on your driving school and where you live.
Please bear in mind that the course consists of a minimum of six hours lessons. If you have not reached the required standard then further lessons may be needed at extra cost until you pass.
Once you have successfully passed the course, discounts on your insurance premiums are often made available by the insurance firms taking part in the scheme. The amount saved will depend on your cirmcumstances may vary from insurer to insurer, but you may often find that the saving more than pays for the course!
