Even Dads can get maternity pay these days. If you are a working dad-to-be you may qualify for up to two weeks paid leave. Statutory Paternity Pay is paid at the same rate as statutory maternity pay. You can claim £108.85 or 90% of your average weekly earnings whichever is higher. To qualify for paternity leave you must:-

  • be working for your employer for 41 weeks when your baby is due
  • be the biological father of the child, or be married to or be the partner of the baby’s mother
  • have some responsibility for raising the child

To claim Statutory Paternity Pay you need to inform your employer at least 15 weeks before the baby is due, and the leave must be taken within 8 weeks of the birth of the child.
